Helping veterans through the healing power of water. Our program combines our volunteers’ passion for fly fishing with the rivers, streams and lakes of Colorado to enable physical and emotional healing for disabled veterans in the Pikes Peak region. With over 550 participants supported by more than 325 volunteers, we are making a difference for disabled veterans in the Pikes Peak region.
We introduce disabled veterans to fly fishing on our region’s waters through outings and fly fishing related activities. The sport reconnects them to a team and community that is often missing in their post-service lives. 700% growth in participant demand and the stories of our veterans point to an effective rehab support program that is literally changing and saving lives!
Our growth requires adding trips, activities, and equipment. Our new 15-passenger van adds insurance, storage and maintenance needs.
In the Southern Colorado region there are over 40,000 disabled service members/veterans who meet Project Healing Waters’ eligibility criteria.
““After six combat tours, coming home with severe PTSD and TBI, I was isolated and shut in. Project Healing Waters changed my life and fly fishing changes your heart."” — Brady B., PHWFF-COS Veteran Participant
