We help LGBTQ+ youth discover their potential to thrive. IOYS is a safe space and self-advocacy center for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and queer (LGBTQ+) and ally young people, ages 13-22. Over 600 young people visit annually to build healthy relationships, grab food from our pantry, write poetry, browse our clothing closet, make friends, dance at our Queer Prom, and receive mentoring and support.
IOYS advocates and educates on behalf of LGBTQ+ young people alongside LGBTQ+ young people. Every young person deserves a place where they can be who they are and feel supported and affirmed as they are. Since 1990, we’ve been that place for young LGBTQ+ people.
We are in need of dedicated volunteers to help facilitate our programs. We also need volunteers for behind the scenes work. We are looking for donations to our food pantry and metro bus passes.
LGBTQ+ young people who have a trusted adult are half as likely to attempt suicide. We build connections so our young people aren’t facing the line of suicide.
“Inside Out is a place I can get to know others in the LGBTQ community and be myself with acceptance and without discrimination. Here I can figure out who I am and where I belong.” — Jordyn, 16 years old
