Our goal is to eliminate disparate outcomes for children of color and children in poverty. Children of color, particularly Black children, are more likely to live in poverty, more likely to have negative outcomes in the school system as well as the child welfare system, and more likely to be overrepresented in the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems than their white peers.
ECOC makes a meaningful impact on youth by providing educational and leadership opportunities they would not otherwise have. We fund scholarships for higher education and give laptops to youth who attend our Summit. We provide programming that challenges the professionals who interact with youth to address their implicit biases to increase positive outcomes for youth in education, child welfare, and juvenile justice. The 2021 Summit will be virtual on Jan. 16, 2021. Register for the event on our website!
As a growing nonprofit organization, we need funding to hire an executive director and to continue offering our four primary programs within the Colorado Springs community.
90% of our 2020 Leadership Academy participants said they plan to go to college and 98% experienced personal growth as a result of attending the event.
“I think this Summit was a great experience. It has helped me come out of my shell and learn about myself. I am so excited that I won an educational gift at the 2020 ECOC Summit. My goal is to go to college to become a sign language interpreter.” — Octavia Roberts, High School Summit Participant
