Ascending to Health is the only facility in the Pikes Peak region offering homeless individuals a safe place to recuperate after a hospital stay. Our respite services assist with meds management, benefits enrollment, connections to primary care and supportive housing options. We partner with hospitals to provide a vital safety net to our community’s most vulnerable, because no one should have to recover on the street.
A recent study found 75% of homeless patient hospital readmissions occur within two weeks of discharge when there is no safe place to convalesce. Patients without homes visit the emergency department nearly 4 times as often as those housed. ATHRC bridges the chronically homeless in our community to medical care, case management and supportive housing reducing costly and unnecessary hospitalizations.
Unused medical supplies, medical equipment, gently used household goods, volunteers, Board members – individuals with experience in financial management, healthcare and/or care for the homeless
We typically place 40% of our clients in permanent supportive housing, assisted living or a nursing facility after respite treatment is completed.
“Ascending to Health helped me when I was at my lowest. Sick, depressed, and homeless. They got me up on my feet with medical and mental health. Now I have a place and I’m grateful for the program. Destiny and Greg get 5 stars! Thanks Greg.” — Wrett, a recent client
